In our last podcast before summer vacation, Jenny Stuber associated professor of Sociology at University of North Florida in the U.S. pays us a visit. Jenny’s research is within the sociology of education and she has focused on how students with different social background fare within the university system. The topic is very close to Jenny’s heart since she grew up in lower economic context, but for various reasons, she had access to cultural capital as evident by the fact that her first experience flying was on a private plane owned by the singer John Denver. Jenny also has very strong connection to Iceland as she has brought American students to Iceland in an exchange program, where students learn about the Icelandic welfare state, inequality, environmental issues and the mental health system.
