In our last podcast before sum­mer vacation, Jenny Stu­ber associ­ated pro­fessor of Soci­ology at Uni­versity of North Florida in the U.S. pays us a visit. Jenn­y’s res­e­arch is wit­hin the soci­ology of education and she has focused on how stu­dents with differ­ent social back­ground fare wit­hin the uni­versity system. The topic is very close to Jenn­y’s heart since she grew up in lower economic context, but for vari­ous rea­sons, she had access to cultural capi­tal as evident by the fact that her first experience flying was on a pri­vate plane owned by the sin­ger John Den­ver. Jenny also has very strong conn­ect­ion to Iceland as she has brought Amer­ican stu­dents to Iceland in an exchange program, where stu­dents learn about the Icelandic welfare state, inequ­ality, environ­mental issues and the mental health system.
