In this week’s podcast, Sigrun discusses with David Reimer professor of sociology of education at Aarhus University. David has done research on education for years and focused on educational inequalities, and especially how it is created when students move from one educational stage to the next one. The two of them discuss the Nordic educational system, what we know about educational inequalities both in the Nordic countries and outside of them, and how different school systems create different opportunities for students, for example regarding how long students can select different courses of study. These debates are especially relevant for Icelandic society at the moment as discussions about schools in general, and the conditions of the educational environment are heavily debated.
