In this week’s podcast, Sigrun discus­ses with David Reimer pro­fessor of soci­ology of education at Aar­hus Uni­versity. David has done res­e­arch on education for years and focused on educational inequ­alities, and especi­ally how it is created when stu­dents move from one educational stage to the next one. The two of them discuss the Nor­dic educational system, what we know about educational inequ­alities both in the Nor­dic countries and outside of them, and how differ­ent school systems create differ­ent opportunities for stu­dents, for example reg­ar­ding how long stu­dents can sel­ect differ­ent cour­ses of stu­dy. These debates are especi­ally rel­evant for Icelandic soci­ety at the moment as discussions about schools in gener­al, and the conditions of the educational environ­ment are hea­vily debated.
