We were still in Germany in this last podcast before Christmas break, but Sigrun´s ended her stay in Northern Germany, where she met Patrick Sachweh, Professor of Sociology at the University of Bremen. His research focuses on inequality. He has looked at inequality in Germany and across countries using quantiative methods, but he has also used focus groups to understand public perceptions of inequality. Here, he has interviewed different groups in society, e.g., those who are wealthier, middle-class or disabled, in an attempt to understand how different groups perceive, experience and justify inequality. This agenda is a part of his project “Popular Perceptions of Inequality and Justice in Germany,” funded by the German Research Fund (DFG). He and Sigrun discuss inequality within and across societies, both in terms of what we know about inquality but also possible interventions to decrease it and why that is important.
